Save Bute Park

Did you know that Cardiff City Council are planning to build an Ice Hockey Stadium in the middle of Bute Park? Neither did I until I found this blog - makes for interesting reading and teaches me not to skim read the Echo (although I still maintain there's no other way to read it).

In fairness, they want to build a TEMPORARY stadium in SOPHIA GARDENS (which already has the cricket ground and other sporting facilities). I still don't necessarily agree with it, but it's important to get the facts straight - from the Plaid 'blog, you could get the impression they want to build it in the middle of the main bit of the park and strangle a few fluffy kittens for good measure.

Personally, I'd rather they didn't build it, but then again I'm not an ice hocky fan. I suspect Cardiff Devils fans are quite keen on the scheme! My point being that it's all about perspective. If building work was delayed because of objections, a Cardiff sporting team would effectively be homeless until something could be sorted, and that would hardly reflect well on the city.

Well, it's Cardiff and it's politics so it's going in the links and we'll be keeping an eye on it whatever happens.

It's not going to be knocked down, it's going to be used by Glamorgan Cricket Club. See the proposals on glamorgancricket.com to see what they have in mind.
